At Parkwood, we teach children that citizenship
involves people working together to make positive differences to the society in
which they live – locally, nationally and globally.
This involves
developing the knowledge, skills and confidence of our Parkwood pupils so they are able
to make their own decisions and to take responsibility (one of our values) for
their own lives and communities. Wherever possible we encourage the children to
experience meaningful opportunities, whereby they support community events such
as donating during Harvest Festival, creating biodiversity on our school site
and supporting local charities and a care home.
Citizenship at Parkwood also involves recognising good and bad choices (right from wrong and peer pressure), the need
for rules, being a part of a democratic system (through our Smart School Council)
and understanding how diversity brings many advantages.
