British values are fundamental, shared principles that form the basis of
society and identity in the United Kingdom. At Parkwood, we teach them through our lessons and our assemblies. They are also closely linked to our school rules and school values, so are embedded throughout each day. British values encompass the ideals of democracy, the rule of law, individual
liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and
beliefs.
Over the course of a year, we welcome visitors from different faiths to share information about their religions and to explain the commitments they make through their worship.
The children are given the opportunity to celebrate religious festivals such as Christingle.
They also attend the local church to perform their Nativity.
Every September, the children from each house team, listen to speeches by their peers. They then vote for the two children they would like as their House Captains. Please see our Smart School Council page for more examples of democracy at Parkwood Primary School.
Visiting the local care home provides the opportunity for the children to demonstrate mutual respect, through sharing interests with those outside their normal circle of friends. They also hear fascinating stories about the past and share information about modern childhood.
