At Parkwood we use a range of assessments, which help to guide the teaching and learning efficiently and accurately. We assess in different ways and for different reasons, but they are all to help us build up a picture of your child's learning and progress.
Parkwood is part of the PiXL (Partners in Excellence) club, which helps build up accurate diagnostic assessments of the children's learning in a precise way. This helps teachers pinpoint areas of learning which need to be addressed and also helps show if the children are on track to achieve all they can and are making good progress.
We also use Balance as an assessment tool. This gives children a command and control of their own learning and leads to meaningful and productive feedback sessions, formative and self assessment. We believe that the children should be at the centre of their own learning, have ownership of their own ideas and have pathways to different ways of showing skills and knowledge.
At Foundation Stage we use Tapestry as our home and school assessment tool, which builds up an interactive and highly informative picture of the children's growing skills and learning during their first year at Parkwood.
To support our phonics we use Read, Write Inc. as the younger children build up their phonics skills in preparation for their phonics screening and more importantly to embed basic skills which they can use as they get older.
The school also supports White Rose Maths, Maths No Problem, Destination Reader and Power Of Reading. All of which help us to build up a detailed picture of their core subject progress. The school is also part of the PSHE Association, which provides a rich and detailed curriculum to support well being.
All of this helps to prepare the children for selective tests, should they choose to take them, and the end of key stage assessments. We do however, want an accurate picture of each individual, so they are prepared for life as rounded and independent people and we do not support short term and narrow curriculum aims.
We believe our assessment offer is broad, comprehensive and focused on guiding future learning.
